Jahnavi Kunja
NAVADVIPA DHAMA

SACRED GROVE OF THE HOLY RIVER

Jahnavi Kunja

ABOUT THIS SITE

Jahnavi Kunja is a beautiful sacred grove situated along the banks of the Jahnavi — another name for the holy Ganges — within the precincts of the Navadvipa dhama. The word 'kunja' refers to a bower or forest grove, and this spot embodies the gentle, sheltering quality of divine nature.

In the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition, the Jahnavi holds deep significance as a manifestation of the divine feminine — her waters considered capable of purifying even the most accumulated burden of material existence. To sit quietly on her banks, surrounded by the verdant groves of this kunja, is to experience the dhama at its most peaceful and intimate.

Pilgrims undertaking the Navadvipa Parikrama often pause here for quiet reflection and prayer, drinking in the gentle spiritual atmosphere before continuing their circumambulation of the sacred land.
